Mission Statement:

Father Bill’s & MainSpring is committed to ending and preventing homelessness in Southern Massachusetts with programs that provide emergency and permanent housing and help people obtain skills, jobs, housing, and services. We help people who are struggling with homelessness or are at risk of homelessness to achieve self-sufficiency.

Father Bill’s & MainSpring is a growing and dynamic social service agency with particular expertise in emergency and permanent housing, job training and placement, and prevention services for individuals and families in need. Over the next five years, our strategic focus includes an increase in affordable, permanent supportive housing, a more efficient model of care for families experiencing homelessness, commitment to an enhanced delivery model to reduce the need for shelter, and improved community relations in order to achieve these goals. Position Summary:
The Controller reports to the Chief Financial Officer and is responsible for leading and managing all functions of the Finance Department (department) and providing it with a compelling vision to continuously improve and provide value to the Agency. The Controller is responsible for carrying out the mission and goals of the department, which include: (a) maintaining complete, accurate, timely and reliable financial records; (b) implementing and maintaining clear, up to date, well-understood and properly used processes and internal controls, including implementing new technologic solutions; and (c) partnering with the Agency’s leadership team and program and department leaders to increase their financial management skills and to support resolving their business issues. The Controller ensures that all accounting, financial reporting, planning, analysis and financial compliance needs of the Agency are met, and that the annual budget and audit processes are completed timely and accurately. The Controller is the Agency’s expert on financial accounting standards and Internal Revenue Service Form 990.

The position is full-time and requires 7 years of comparable not-for-profit experience. A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in accounting is required and CPA preferred. The ideal candidate is a motivated self-starter possessing solid leadership, communication and technical skills with successful prior management experience and strong ethics. The ability to maintain professionalism and composure is required.

The following roles report to the Controller:
- Billing Specialists (one full-time and one part-time)
- Accountant (part- time)
- Cash Receipts Specialist (part-time)
- Accounts Payable Specialist (full-time)
- Accounts Payable Assistant (part-time)

Essential Responsibilities:
- Functions independently overseeing the daily operation of the Finance Department
- Supervises, hires, evaluates and develops finance team members
- Develops and executes annual department goals aligned to the Agency’s mission and goals
- Prepares cash management and financial reports and presents to various audiences
- Supports program leaders by providing financial management tools to assist them to analyze and solve business issues
- Supports program leaders with contract and compliance-related issues
- Ensures the timely filing of the Agency’s contractual financial compliance requirements
- Leads the annual $20M+ budget process with input from department and program leaders
- Oversees the preparations of the Agency’s annual independent audits and acts as the primary contact with the audit firm
- Establishes, maintains and improves financial controls within the department and across the organization
- Oversees the selection and implementation of new accounting software solutions
- Manages the design and revisions to the general ledger to satisfy the Agency’s financial and management reporting requirements
- Supports the CFO and takes lead roles in a variety of significant finance projects, as requested
- Manages the Agency’s banking and risk management relationships with the CFO
- Maintains strong and effective relationships with Agency teams to facilitate seamless reconciliations and submission of other information to Finance
- Maintains strong and effective relationships with banks, lenders, funders, vendors and agency partners
- Understands funder contracts as related to billing and financial reporting
- With input from program leaders, prepares and submits contract budgets, amendments and contracts to funders
- Understands tasks of other positions in the department to ensure adequate backup during absences and emergencies
- Performs other financial projects or duties as they arise

● Travel: Local travel may be required. Valid driver’s license and good driving record required.
