Job Description:
Assistant to Executive Director, full-time.

Organization overview: Zen Peacemakers inc. is a Buddhist-based organization with international reach, dedicated to social action as spiritual practice. It was founded by Zen Master Bernard Glassman, award-winning pioneer in social enterprise and engaged buddhism. Among ZP's ongoing projects are the acclaimed annual international interfaith bearing witness retreat in Auschwitz-Birkenau, the international Zen Peacemaker Order community, ongoing outreach with Lakota allies in Pine Ridge and Cheyenne River Reservations in South Dakota, with refugees and homelessness, among many others. We are currently seeking a creative and motivated Assistant to Executive Director in support of ZP's promotion of its founder's legacy and vision, administration, programs, fundraising, marketing, global community outreach and coordination.

Unique Opportunity To:

Support a fast-growing diverse global movement of social action based on buddhist practices and teachings
Develop dynamic global outreach projects
Interact with world-renowned Zen Peacemakers co-founder Zen Master Bernie Glassman


Support the executive director in daily administration at our office in Montague, MA
Support and develop the international Zen Peacemaker Order community.
Coordinate our summer program with Lakota allies in South Dakota
Relay communications with founder Bernie Glassman and with world-wide and high-profile partners and collaborators
Support and develop programs and trainings
Maintain social media presence & website
Compose blog posts & newsletter for mass-emailing
Support ED with caring for Founder Bernie Glassman in his post-stroke recovery.

Desired Qualifications:

Flexibility – Comfortability with fast pace change. Not knowing is the First Tenet of the Zen Peacemakers.
Superior communication skills, nonviolent communication skills a plus
Creative writing skills for blogs and newsletters
Editing and proofreading
Proficiency in Word-press website/blogging platform
Must-have software skills MS-OFFICE, Google Docs/Sheets/Forms, Adobe Photoshop, Zoom, Skype
Interest in / active study of Buddhism or other spiritual faiths.
Meditation practice
Experience in community organizing / volunteering / social action
Experience with Zen Peacemakers a plus but not required
Local and knowledgable of Western Massachusetts or ready to relocate to MA. Off-site work may be possible with exceptional candidates.

Job Specifications:

February 1st thru May 30th , four month span, extension according to performance
Full-time $15/hour freelance-based, monthly salary for 40-hours per week
Starting Date February 1st 2017
