Competency Coordinator


Glenhaven Academy is a 34 bed residential treatment facility for adolescent males and females, specializing in trauma informed care and specialty treatment modalities including the ARC (Attachment, Regulation and Competency) framework. Glenhaven Academy provides comprehensive care including a school on site, a full clinical staff, nursing staff, and 24 hour direct care supervision. Students are referred to Glenhaven Aacademy based on struggles maintaining safety in less restrictive levels of care and who require the support of a full service treatment modality to make progress towards their treatment goals. The program provides long term treatment to the students and their families while also maintaining safety 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Job Description:
The van der Kolk Center at Glenhaven Academy is seeking a full-time Competency Coordinator. This creative individual will develop each student’s positive, unique sense of self through exploration of new activities, vocational opportunities within the community, and on-grounds job programming. The Competency Coordinator will research and advocate for students to be set up with unique competency-based activities such as: on grounds job programming for all students, equine therapy, volunteering in the community, jobs off campus, karate lessons off site, music lessons, art lessons, community support groups, driver’s education and JRI Sports League.

The Competency Coordinator will aid each student through an ARC (Attachment, Self-Regulation, and Competency) and trauma-informed lens. The Competency Coordinator will work collaboratively with each student’s treatment team in identifying effective ways for each student to explore their personal identity and participate in activities that will support strengths and talents. This individual will also be available to plan and lead competency-building activities daily, provide community support, provide strong advocacy for competency activities and display the ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team. As a senior staff at Glenhaven Academy, the Competency Coordinator will have the opportunity to train residential staff members in the milieu, with a focus on activity-based training. Requirements:
Experience working with adolescents in a mental-health setting, excellent communication skills, and strong leadership skills are required.
